HOP ALONG TO SEAQUARIUM FOR FROG AWARENESS WEEKEND!

Release Date: Wednesday 26 April 2017

African clawed frog
This Mayday Bank Holiday is ‘Save The Frogs’ awareness weekend at SeaQuarium Rhyl.
Staff at the centre are dedicating the whole weekend to raising awareness of the problems suffered by frogs worldwide. There will be special talks, craft sessions and feeding demonstrations taking place throughout the entire Bank Holiday Weekend.

Staff are aiming to educate guests about what they can do to help save frogs, along with other amphibians, such as toads and salamanders, who have hopped or slithered on Earth since before the time of the dinosaurs.

SeaQuarium Aquarist, Gaz Mead says, “Frogs come in a variety of colours and body shapes and go through amazing transformations over their lifetimes. They play important roles in the food chain and act as a good bio-indicator for the health of the environment they live in. In the last few decades over 200 species of amphibians have gone extinct, whilst a further 2000 currently face extinction.”

He added “In support of Save The Frog Awareness Day, we will be scheduling additional talks and feeding demonstrations to highlight the problems faced by frogs and amphibians in the UK. There will be fun activities throughout the weekend and guests can help raise money for the Amphibian and Reptile Groups UK charity, by correctly naming the frog. There will be a soft toy frog to take home for the winner.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity to extend the awareness day, that always takes place on the last day of April, to this Spring bank holiday weekend.”

During May Day holiday all of the SeaQuarium exhibits will be open as usual. Guests are able to see the African clawed frogs as well as a wide variety of other sea creatures of all shapes and sizes. There is a full programme of talks, demonstrations and seal shows taking place throughout the day. Also, there are free craft sessions for the children to make their own frog and enter a competition to win an adoption for a frog for 12 months at the SeaQuarium.
Visitors can find more information about the plight and importance of amphibian by visiting www.arguk.org website and to see what can be done to save frogs.

Standard admission prices are £9.50 for adults and £8.50 for children. Alternatively, book in advance online and save up to 25% off the standard admission price.
