Explore Jellies at Rhyl
Release Date: Friday 31 January 2014
Rhyl SeaQuarium are celebrating the success of their ‘Out of the Blue’ exhibit by welcoming some new stock to the display. Fifteen new jellyfish measuring only 8cm in diameter have been added to the existing display ready for the Explorers themed Half Term Event 15th to 2nd March 2014.
Displays Manager Zoe Kelly says ‘The display has been really successful and as we are entering this coming season, we are adding to it to make it even more spectacular for our guests’ she goes on to say ‘the new additions will fit into the current display nicely and should grow quickly’.
The Moon Jellyfish, Aurelia aurita, are housed in a specially designed tank called a Kriesel that creates a constant flow around the tank, to keep the jellyfish suspended; this makes them appear to be drifting in the current. The tank also has a special colour changing light which guests can control themselves allowing them to see the jellyfish under which ever colour they chose. Zoe commented ‘the colour changing light is great as each colour shows off different parts of the jellyfish’.
Also this half term, budding explorers will be able to join our new adventurer, Livingstone, on his journey around the aquarium.
