Hermit crab, Scarlet red legged

The scarlet red legged hermit crab is also known as the red reef hermit crab and is easily recognised by its bright red legs and body and yellow eyestalks.


Fun Facts...

Most hermit crabs have abdomens which are curved into a spiral shape in order to fit into the shell. Their bodies are soft and the crab finds empty shells (usually from sea snails) to protect its body.



Location...

Found in the Indo-Pacific, Caribbean and western Atlantic.



Habitat...

Usually found on reef faces and amongst coral rubble.



Diet...
Scavenges on animal matter and algae
